Welcome to Kalillo drumming
Bringing African drumming to the heart of the community
Gambia - the capital is Banjul.
Kalillo is an affectionate name I got in Gambia, West Africa, while I was staying with the drum and dance troupe Fatala at their Compound in 2003. They're based in Kotu, an area near the town of Serrakunda in the west.
I'm of Jamaican origin and have been interested in drums and Africa for the past 16 years. My friend Jeanette is a regular visitor to Gambia and one day she encouraged me to join her in her travels
After I returned from Serrakunda, I was so inspired, I set up Kalillo Drumming.
I wanted to share with local communities what i had learned and began
delivering Drumming workshops to young people and adults. Within a few months I was being called on for my drumming services for all kinds of events, such as Christnings, weddings, jamming with DJs, naming ceremonies, kwanza, Black History Month and other community drumming events.
